Canadian Designers and Artists Come Together in Edmonton to raise funds and awareness in Alberta’s only Art and Design Haiti Benefit

On March 4th 2010, over 70 Canadian and international visual artists, designers, photographers, illustrators, and craft artists will offer their works of art for a charity silent auction at Enterprise Square (10230 Jasper Avenue) between 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Featuring artists such as Vancouver-based Bocci (2010 Winter Olympic medal designer, architect, lighting designer), 2010 Alberta Biennial artists Jason de Haan and Kristopher Lindskoog, along with the best of Alberta’s art + design community, the Edmonton Art and Design Haiti Benefit will bring together the country’s brightest designers and most innovative artists for a global cause.

“I wanted to bring together my friends for the obvious reason that the situation in Haiti is dire and this is an opportunity for people like us, artists and designers who are not major celebrities, to give back in a beautiful way,” says Carmen Douville, organizer of the benefit. “The response from everyone has been really uplifting, having the artist call-out go from artist to artist from Toronto to New York to Vancouver, the resources and support are out there, and we just want to say we care too.”

Douville (of Loyal Loot Collective), hopes to raise a significant amount of funds for two organizations/charities who are making a difference in Haiti as chosen by the participating artists and designers.

Says Douville, “For such a wealthy province filled with such generous and talented people, we want to say ‘We can make a difference too.”
